Some days ago the prisoner, an efficient miner, was missed from, his place in the workshops. A search disclosed that the man was workiug in a. tunnel from the inside of the°.locker in the works branch. The earth removed from the tunnel wa.s taken out in a bucket and covered with rubbish, so that the vigilance of the warders was evaded. Apparently the prisoners, who are supposedly to number only tv o or three connected with the plot, had noknowledge of the underground layout, as within a few feet of the tunnel they would have reached a concretefoundation which it would be impossible for them to penetrate.
