The ball, which was given by the Commander-in-Chicf of the United States Fleet, ..Admiral Coontz, and officers to the citizens of Wellington was a most memorable function and was held on the long grey battleship Pennsylvania, with her lino a blaze of lights. Lady Poinnrc, formerly of Gisborne, was amongst the guests present and was gowned very charmingly in black georgette with chan Lilly lace. Miss Pomarc’s smart- frock also of black was beautifully appliquod with roses.

Airs McKenzie, organiser for the Panclitn Ramabni Mission foiy New Zealand, is expected to arrive m Gisborne on Tuesday next, September 3. During her stay Airs McKenzie wil conduct a sale of Indian. Continental and other work at the forthcoming Daffodil Show.
