BRITISH WAR OFFICE POLICE,
LONDON, Sept. 2. The Evening Standard says that Sir L. Worthington Evans explains that tho War Office lias decided to no longer borrow London police, but. to have its oWTi~f trree' of 200 men, available to guard depots and stores. This force is being openly enlisted. It bears not the slightest relation to liossible industrial trouble.
IRAQ-BIMTISH ALLIANCE}. BAGDAD, Sept. 2. The Irak Parliament, at a special session, passed a resolution that the Irak nation, represented by Parliament, declares strong friendship towards Great Britain, and expresses a desire to continue the alliance after the expiry of the present treaty.
DISASTROUS FIRE AT REGGIO
ROME, Sept. 2,
A fire in the town hall at Reggio, fanned by a high wind, spread to neighbouring buildings and destroyed practically the whole town, including the area rebuilt since the earthquake in 1911.
CANADIAN BOND ISSUE OVERSUBSCRIBED.

NORTHERN TERRITORY STRIKE
(UNITED PP.ESP ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHTS BRISBANE, Sept. 3. The Northern Territory strikers are holding out for additional demands. The Government consequentllv is compelled to wait until the settlement is ratified by a mass meeting 'of strikers, who will decide when the trains shall resume runn-ng.
ALLEGED MURDER
HOBART, Sept, 3.
Alfred John Dobson has been arrested and charged with the murder of his wife, who died recently. It is alleged Dobson poisoned her. He was remanded till Monday.
MESOPOTA MIA MANDATE
(SYDNEY SUN CABLE.)
LONDON, Sept. 2. Colonel Amery will inform the League of Nations that Britain is u illing to retain the Mesopotamia mandate, but it is expected arrangements will bo made to cease British expenditure in 1928.
