.PREMIER OPENS CAMPAIGN. FURTHER REDUCTION OF TAXATION. LAW MUST BEA’L WITH STRIKE MENACE. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT) (Received April 27. 11.30 pun.) SYDNEY, April 27. The State election campaign opened at Mossvale by the Premier delivering a policy speech which for the first time in the history of the State was broadcasted by wireless. Aftci reviewing the past performances of the Government in which, he said the accumulated’ deficit-Heft by the Labor Government of £3,578,26S had been reduced by over £1,030,000 he claimed that- as tne result of liis administration there would be no need' during the coming year to make an appeal on the local market for money. The Government intended to keep off the money market until the interest rate was re duced. The Governments’’ policy would not he one of cheeseparing, but one which would insure the maximum good with the- minimum expenditure. There would he a further reduction of taxation amounting to half a million sterling. There would be a vigorous and sustained’ effortto increase la-ud settlement- and develop the State’s power and resources. He added that a strenuous effort would be made to wipe off the accumulated deficit and. there would be a further reduction in the State income tax. He also outlined a scheme of prison reform by which prisons would bo made self-support-ing. He said a referendum wouhl.be taken on the Question of the abolition of the Upper House and membership in anv case would be restricted to a period of years. The Premier concluded by . reterrin gto a number of strikes in the State and said this must stop. It the law at present was not able to stop it the law must he tightened up, in order to protect the majority ot -the people in the State from the machinations of a dangerous minority. -
