KILNER’S TRICKY BOWLING

MATCH DRAWN

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COFY BICIIT*

(Received Feb. 25, 8.30 p.ir.i.) SYDNEY, I eh. 25.

The weather was beautifully tine when New South Wales resumed their first innings against England, Holloway (22) and Ratcliffe (35) continuing on a good wicket. With the dismissal of Ratcliffe after 25 minutes’ play New South Wales’ chances of reaching six hundred looked black, but the last wicket partnership- added tliirtvfour. AA’hen the sixth wicket fell the board had showed 564, and all were ■out for 619. Kc’lew&y batted very stubbornly. He occupied the crease ]l4 minutes and hit two fours. Scott provided the only bright patch in New South Wales’ tail, lie should have been caught- by Howell when his score was two. The innings lasted 481 minutes. Kfiner was tho most successful bowler. Ilis most dangerous ball was a slow one, which bung in the air so that the batsmen tapped it into the fieldsmen’s hands. The English fielding was not up to the: usual standard. England commenced their second strike seven minutes before lunch. Sandham and Whysal! opened vigorously, fifty appearing after thirty-one minutes’ play, but with Whysall’s departure at fifty-seven, play steadied down and the second fifty took fiftythree minutes to compile. Sandham played sound, attractive cricket and displayed good judgment in placing his strokes all round the wicket. AVoolley commenced slowly and had a couple of narrow escapes before reaching double figures. The batsmen did not exert themselves running between the wickets. The scores are as follows :

SOUTHLAND v. VICTORIA. (PRESS ASSOCIATION)

INVERCARGILL, Feb. 25

The run. cricket match Victoria v. Southland was continued to-day in beautiful weather. The wicket was very fair and the outfield a tribe slow. The attendance- was lOC. Yesterday Southland were all out for 132 and Victoria had lost two for 51. Continuing their first innings to-day the visitors brought the total 188 for' two and a-lialf hours at the wickets. The small total was due to Southland's fielding, which was good, especially the catches of Shorriffs and A. Hamilton. The howling of Poole, Sherriifs and Gcodsir' was a pleasing feature of the game. Southland then went in for the second time, but were all out for 67. Jl. Lynch (21) .was the only double figure rooicr. Victoria went in again with 41 to win. which was compiled without loss beforo time, thus winning by ten wickets. VICTORIA (first innings.) Mavno, run cut ... 35 Woodiull. c Poole h Goodsir ...
