INFECTIOUS DISEASES
NO INFANTILE PARALYSIS CASES IN BOR BE GIT.
PREVAHENCE OF DIPHTHERIA LAST YEAR.
“To date no cases of infantile paralysis have occurred within the Borough, and all precautionary measures are still bring enforced, as the danger period has not yet passed.” reported the Sanitary Inspector (.Mr J. Lloyd) to tiie Borough Council last evening. The genera: e’ean-up of the Borough is so far progressing satisfactorily. The following infect’ous diseases occurred witiiin the Borough for the year ending December 31, 122-4:
Cases, Diphtheria -5-5 Scarlet fever 7 Typhoid, fever 5 ~ Tuberculosis 0 Pmupernl fever 3 Pnoumona 3 Influenza, meningitis ... 1 Erysipelas 0 Total 89 Diphtheria: This disease shows an increase of 41 cases over the 'period of 1923, and was very prevalent throughout Now Zealand dur ng the past year. The results ol bacteriological tests in seven cases were negative, those being doubtful diphtheria cases, hut are included in the total. The disease was most provident- during the months of .April, May and June, nine cases having occurred during each oi‘ these months. T*nberculos:.s: Six out oi the nine cm os were imported cases or eases from outside the district. Two cases less than the previous year. The remaining eases need no comment, as there are no special circumstances in connection with any particular one of these diseases.
