LONDON. .June 2. • Viscount Astor. in a presidential address at the Temperance Convention held at Ca-xton Hall, V estminster, attended by delegates from all parts of the Empre, said that politicians were still shy of advocating temperance too boldly, possibly because of the direct and indirect methods of intimidation practised by the liquor trade. Nevertheless, it was a good omen that many trade candidates had been rejected at the general election, while temperance leaders generally had been successful. — Reuter.
