PROPOSED LABOR CONFERENCE. SYDNEY, June 2. The secretary of the Labor Council announced that he would forthwith ignore the Stale Executive ai.d proceed to assemble a social industrial conference on June 21 to consider the abolition of section ballots in industrial matters. BALLOT BOX SCANDALS. SYDNEY, June 2. An inquiry into the ballot box scandals by the Federal executive of the Australian Labor Party commences to-day. FROM POLICE COURT TO MENTAL HOSPITAL. ADELA fDE. June 2. At the trial of Bert Stapleton Neal, charged with shooting a girl named Hilda Jones, aged 16, on March 17, the jury held accused was insane at the time of the shooting. His Honor directed that Neal be confined to the criminal ward of the mental hospital until the pleasure of the Governor was known. NEW ART UNION REGULATIONS SYDNEY, June 2. New regulations governing the promotion and conduct of art unions will operate from to-day. They provide that the seller of ticket* shall take the name and address of every purchaser cf a ticket, and prohibit persons under the age of seventeen years from purchasing or selling tickets, or participating in any capacity in connection with art unions.
