BRIGHT FUTURE FOR SUFFERERS.
i Although insulin was given to .the world by Dr. Banting of Toronto, about IS months ago only, it< has already been the means of prolonging ;• the lives of thousands of people who ! suffered from diabetes. Previous to ' the discovery of insulin the future i held very little- for them; to-day they i have hopes of carrying on their orI dinarv vocations and living full and j useful lives, gome months ago Christ,i church sufferers had the drug made available to them, but at that time , the cost of the treatment was almost ! prohibitive coming to nearly Ss a c lav. N Now the price is down' to Id _a i unit, and the average injection is ! about 40 units a day. Each week the I number of patients is increasing ancl I about 40 are now receiving help at ' the Christchurch Hospital. . t The. necessity for special clinics tor i the treatment of diabetes is becoming 1 evident. At present the Christchurch i Hospital staff can cope with the del mand, but special provision will have to- he made shortly for the treatment : of the sufferers. 1 .So far as the price of insulin -is ‘concerned the future is bright.
