Mr. and Mrs. and Miss Single, of ■ Waiora, leave by the Ulimaroa for , Sydney, where they will join the Orj vieto on route to the Homeland, j W’liilst abroad, they Will, in addition !to doing the Empire Exhibition also j make a tour in Denmark and also in | France. They expect to be absent j from the Dominion for six or seven i months.

i The Poverty Bay Rugby' Union last j night entertained Mr. F. J. Single, ’ who is a stalwart of the Rugby game iin the W'airoa district. Many tributes were paid to the Sportsmanship ; of Mr. Single and, in particular, bis * efforts in the direction of bringing : W'airoa and Gisborne together as far I :\*i Rugby is concerned was stressed, j The hope was expressed that Mr. Single' would have - a good trip abroad ; and would return to assist in further developing the Rugby game on the i East Coast.

Une of the passengers South by the Arahura last evening was Tom Hceney, professional heavyweight champion of New Zealand, who left en route to' England. His popularity was testified to by the crowd who farwelled him. The Gisborne Boxing Association was well represented, and in addition there were present many residents of the town seen in ringside and other seats at the boxing tournaments. Numerous gaily colored streamers were thrown to the Tuatea from the wharf, and when these were broken as the vessel pulled out three cheers were given for Tom Heeney and his train r. Fred. Dominey, who accompanies him on Ins trip Home. Heeney and Dominey leave Wellington by the Rualiine on May 13 for London direct.
