MATAWHERO YARDS,

The Poverty Bay Stockbrokers’ Association held their weekly .sale at the Matawhero yards yesterday, when there was a good attendance of buyers and bidding was fairly brisk. Good hoggets met with a brisk demand. In fat sheep there was a yarding of 765 head, mostly ewes, prices ranging from 16s 7d for light unfinished owes up to 20s 9d and up to 36s 6d for wot ho/s.

There was a' small yarding of pigs, 26 head, prices ranging from 9s for wenners up to 22s for fight porkers and up to 43s for haconers. •Only two head of fat cattle were brought forward, two Shorthorn heifers being passed in at £0 2s Cd. There was a yarding of approximately 7000 head of store sheep, and prices ranged from 11s 5d for small hoggets up to 18s, 21s to 255. for small 2-tooth wethers; 16s up to 23 for eves in lamb, and 16s to 17s 3d for empty ewes.

AUCKLAND, May 7. There was a large yarding of boot which sold at late quotations. Extra choice ox made up to 30s per IUUIb, die ice and prime 26s to 295; plain and unfinished 22s to 255; prime young cow and heifer 24 s to 265; other cow 18s to 235; rough beef _l2s to 17s. Calves were yarded in less than the averages numbers. Late quotations prevailed, ltunners made £3 15s to £ I 7s ; heavy vealers 53s to 745; medium 36s to 51s; light 2ds to 355; smaller 13s to 18s; small and fresh diopped os to 10s; rough 15s to 28s. Figs.—There was a smaller yarding and prices were firm at last wcck s rates. Choppers made 65s to 84s; heavy and medium baconers and heavy porkers 64s to 755; medium and light porkers 525, to 635; large stores 27s to 31s; slips 20s to 265; woaners 12s to 235.

Sheep.—There was an average yarding which sold under steady competition at late rates. Heavy prime weathers made 37s 9d to 33s 9d; medium 36s to 37s 6d;-.-light 34s to 35s 9d; smaller and unfinished 80s to 33s 9d; heavy prime ewes 31s 3d to 33s 9d; medium 29s to 31s; light 26s 6d to 28s Gd; inferiorly fatted ewes 18s to 2os.

CHRISTCHURCH, May 7. At Addington market the yarding to-day of l'at cattle and sheep was one of the largest on record, due, no doubt, to the burst of winter last week making holdern of forward stock apprehensive about feed resources. Store sheep: Old ewes predominated and there was. a good sale for all quality sheep, particularly wethers. Store cattle: A very heavy yarding, mostly of poor class and a lair sale. Some 3 ypar steers made to £5 10s. Dairy cows: A large yarding, and springers sold well, cows making to £ll and heifers to £lO 10s; interior down to 3Us.
