POLICY IN SCOTLAND
HEALTH BOARD’S DECISION. *
SEQUEL TO CONFERENCE
The Scottish Board of Health has intiifiated to the local authorities concerned its decision on the number or two-apartiuent houses, tlveir size, and density of the houses to he allowed in the scheme under the Housing. Act. 1923, and in the schemes for improvement of insanitary areas. These were the points that were discussed at a conference, when the Secretary for Scotland ami the Parliamentary Under Secretary for Health and members ot t he Board of Health received representatives of the Scottish local authorities.
The following is understood to be the decision:—« (1) The proportion of two-apartment houses in the new scheme must not exceed 25 per cent., the remaining 15 » per cent, to bo three or more apartments.
(2) In the improvement scheme the minimum superficial areas should he 510 ft for two-apartment houses ami 610 ft for three-apartment houses. (3 For schemes by local authorities undehr the 1923 Act,' the minimum superficial areas shall ho 550 f- and 650 ft respectively. ;
(■1) The maximum density to he allowed in either of the above schemes shall be. 24 houses to the acre for three-storey tenements, 16 to the acre for two-storey flats, and 12 to the acre for cottages.
