HALF-CASTE BOY DROWNED. ROTORUA, May 5. A half-caste boy, Alexander Rick it, aged eight years, was drowned on Sunday morning in a warm bath at Whakarewarewa. Ho was bathing with a number of Maori boys. One child, aged seven years, saw a hand projecting from the water. The boys, Lightened, left the bath and ran away. Deceased was afterwards missed The bath was searched and the body found at the bottom.—P.A.

An inquest was ! held yesterday, -when evidence was ' given that the deceased was examined by the medical superintendent of the , hospital, Dr. Fisher, prior to the ' anaesthetic being administered by Dr. ; Howard. A post-mortem was conducted by Dr. Vivian, who gave evidence that in liis opinion death was due to acute cardiac failure induced by ' chloroform. Tlie inquest was adjourned to allow evidence to be given by i the superintendent, Dr. Fislier, uho ' was indisposed.—P.A. | KILLED BY BUSH LOCOMOTIVE. GREYMQUTH, May 5. The body of an old-age pensioner, . named Charles Carlson, gumdigger, was found l by a lad while shooting on Sunday near Maitalii. The deceased who had been on t-lio gum fields for over twenty years went away about Christmas time. No notice was taken of his departure, as lie often went away.
