A QUESTION OF FUNDS

WELLINGTON, May 5. The Alain Highways Board is now in a position to submit its proposals for the declaration of main highways under section 3 of the Main Highways Act to the Governor-General, and it is anticipated that the highways will be gazetted within a few days, alio question of finance lias caused the Board some concern, owing to the Motor Vehicle Bill not having been proceeded with last year, and consequently a source of maintenance funds not being available. f ihe Board waited on the Prime Alinister and the Ministers of Public Works and Internal Affairs. The Prime Alinister assured the Board that he would do Ins best to find the necessary funds. Recently the chairman of the Board had a conference with the Alines Department and Director of Geological Survey regarding the setting up of u petrological laboratory. The Board decided to give the financial assistance req uired.—P.A.
