OIL SCANDAL.

NATIONAL INTEREST IN WHEELER’S INDICTMENT. SENATE TO INVESTIGATE. (Received April 11, 11 p.m.) WASHINGTON, April 10. Senator Wheeler’s indictment has become tho centre of national interest. The Speaker (Mr Cummins) has appointed an '-investigating committee, and upon designating Senator Borah as chairman, drew prolonged applause from spectators in tho gallery, who are evidently gratified at the prospect of an impartial enquiry.. The Daugherty Committee meanwhile summoned Chief Burns, who admitted that the Republican National Committee and Daugherty both were fully posted regarding the proceedings against Senator Wheeler, and further stated that three agents of tho Department of Justice were sent to Montana, thereby substantiating Senator Wheeler’s and Senator Walsh’s frequent complaints. It is reported Mr Coolidge likewise took a hand in the affair, directing the new Attorney-General, Mr Stone, to institute a separate enquiry in connection with Senator Wheeler’s indictment.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
