SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION AT RESERVE.

There was a large attendance at the Reserve yesterday, when 'the annual school games were held, and proved most successful. These games, winch/ ; are of undoubted benefit the child- | ron, engendering- at once a love of open-air games arid a sense of sports- j manship, two.things inseparable from, j the character of the average New Zoa- : lander. » : •These games were instituted in 1904, and. for some years the sports, including games and athletic events, were held in the grounds of Wacren-ga-a-hika College. .Public support was not forthcoming to any great extent, however, and fell off, the games being discontinued about 11 or : 12 years ago. The games were revived after a year or two of inactivity and were held on the Show grounds at To Hapara, and in more recent 1 years on tiie Reserve. A steady increase has occurred in the number of entries, and this year reached such a high figure that" it was decided to hold .separate days for games and lor athletic events.
