Mr. James Costal!, formerly Government printer, died at Wellington yesterday. He arrived in New Zealand in 1855, and was 92 years of age.—P.A. Mr. S. N. Ziinan, the first Auckland Rhodes Scholar, has been appointed secretary to tlie Government of Bombay with a seat on the Legislative Council at Poona. According to advice received by his father, Air. J. Zinina, of , Auckland', states a P.A. message, this is one of the highest and most coveted positions, in the Indian Civil Service, and Air. Zinnia is a junior member by nine years' service to hold such an important positionThe death occurred at Blenheim on Saturday of Richard Ball, one of the oldest residents ol 1110 town., in his 90th year. Air. Ball was a native of Cornwall, England, and served as a young man the Royal Navy. In his early tweaties\Jie joined the Army and took part in the CrimeaifWnr. lie was ordered to New Zealand to take part in the Maori War, and on the conclusion of hostilities remained in Now Zealand, settling in Nelson. Forty years ago Air. Ball commenced business as a taxidermist in Blenheim. There are six children surviving, thirty grandchildreii. and thirty-live greatgrand children.—P.A.
