DISPOSAL OF REFUSE.
BOROUGH COUNCIL AND BOARD OF HEALTH. CONSTRUCTION OF DESTRUCTOR TO BE CONSIDERED. The method of refuse disposal employed by the Borough Council was the subject oi a communication received last night Jfrom the Board of Public Health, which stated that, in the opinion of the Board, the present system required improvement. It the present “tip” method oi' disposal were" to be continued, another site approved by the Medical O nicer should he found and the refuse deposited therein along the lines suggested by the English Ministry of Health. ’ " The Mayor complained of the inconsistency of the Board of Health, which had recommended only a short time ago that the Cook County be allowed to use this dump in.common with the Council. He considered they should refer the matter back to the Board, pointing out this lacf CT. Bickford said that was really a reminder that they should build a proper refuse, destructor. It would not help them to refer the matte: hack.’ Ct. Coleman considered that the Cook County should he given notice that tliov would have to discontinue dumping at this site. Or. Collin favored the removal ot the dump on the ground that it was too close, to the abattoirs. The motion, that the Cook County Council he given six months’ notice to get out. was carried. Cr. Bickford thou moved that the Works Committee be instructed to go into the question of providing Gisborne with an up-to-date destructor. The motion was carried.
