PRESSMEN URGE CONTINUOUS PROGRESS WITH SERVICE. MINISTER ANTICIPATES STATION IN 12 OR Is MONTHS. LONDON, Juli' 23. Lord Burnham introduced a,deputation from the Empire Press Union vo Sir L. Worthington Evans. It was representative of all the Dominions. Members urged the pressing forward oi Imperial wireless service. Sir L. Worthington Evans said the question was of national and Imoerial importance. It was imperative to-evolve a workable commercial scheme. He denied there had been unnecessary delays. The points at issue should be settled within a month. Thereafter there would be nothing to prevent the erection of a high power station, which should be operative within 12 vo 1-S months. The Government’s object i:i the present negotiations over licenses was to secure enterpii-e with a minimum of Government control. He hoped the wireless rate would always be lower than the cable rates, though there would doubtless be competition. LONDON. July 23. The Postmaster-General hopes that tlie Marconi wireless agreement will be signed within a month. The Government expects that the hiyh-power station at Rugby will be erected in about a year.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
