REVOLT IN PRISON.
DESPERATE GERMAN CRIMINALS OVERWHELM WARDERS.
BUILDING SURROUNDED BY ARMED POLICE.
LONDON, May 8. The Daily Chronicle’s Berlin correspondent reports that 800 inmates of the Bradenburg prison, revolted and overwhelmed the warders because they were not allowed to smoke or to have the freedom ofrehoice of reading matter. They want a thousand marks a day extra" for convict labor, and more and better food. The convicts, who included the most desperate criminals in Germany, smashed the furniture in the cells, broke windows and tore tiles from the roof, the damage amounting to hundreds of millions of marks. Finally armed police laid siege to the prison, firing upon the rebels. The prison is still surrounded.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
