The “Daily Mail” announces that the Duke of York will be appointed to a Dominion Governor-Generalship. —A. and X.Z.C.A. The Rev. W. Raine, vicar of Martiuborougli, has resumed charge of liis parish after many weeks of indisposition.
The Bishop of Goulburn (Victoria; is expected to be present at the opening of the Marsden Church House in Nelson oil Mav 16th.
Inspector F. 0. York, of the Government Health Department, ha-. arrived 'in Nelson to take over the duties of Inspector of the Government Health Department, vacated by Mr H. Coltman. Mr. H. A. King, local Commissioner of the Boy Scout organisation, leaves to-night to attend the annual meeting of the Dominion Executive of the Scouts, to be hold in Christchurch on April 24. Mr. N. Alfred Nathan, chairman of directors of L. D. Nathan, Ltd., and Directors of L. D. Nathan. Ltd., and Mr. War nock, manager of the wine and spirit department, arrived in Gisborne yesterday.
The death has occurred in Hastings of Mrs Marion Isabel Gascoyne, wife of Major Gascoyne. The deceased, who was 67 years of age, celebrated her golden wedding on Christinas Day. She had been ailing for some time. Her early life was centred round the.v Maori IVar, in which her husband** greatly distinguished lipniseli.
Mr J. Mair, who is one of the most highly qualified architects in New Zealand, has been appointed Government Architect m succession to Mr John Campbell, who recently retired on superannuation. Mr Mair was born in Invercargill about 40 years ago. He was educated at the Southland Boys’ High School. Mr P. S. Gillingham, of Whang.irci, has been appointed to the position of associate to Sir John Satmond. Mr J. M. Gamble, who has acted in a similar capacity to Mr Justice Salmond for some years past, and accompanied Sir John as secretary to to Washington Conference, has joined the legal firm of Treadwell and Son, of Wellington.
A very pleasing ceremony took place at tlio local brewery yesterday when the staff assembled in full force to make presentations to Mr. and Mre. C. Bruetsch. Mr. Breutscli has been brewer to Messrs. D. J. Barry, Ltd., for the past 13 or 14 years and, together with Mrs. Breutsh, is about to take a well earned holiday in Switzerland. On behalf of the staff, Mr. J. Chrisp asked Mr. Breutsch to accept for Mrs. Breutsch u handsome satchel and for himself a suit case. In doing so; he spoke of Mr. Breutsch's great ability and popularity and his sentiments were heartily re-echoed by other members of the staff. They all wished Mr. and Mrs. Bruetsch a pleasant trip and a safe return. Mr. Bruetsch feelingly responded.
