i A mother of 10 children had some pertinent remarks to make on the modern girl, to Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M. at the Christchurch Magistrate’s Court. She appeared to represent her husband, who was charged with failing. to send one of the 10 children to school. The woman appeared in Court carrying the latest addition to the family, only a few months old. She stated that the eldest was 24 years. 1 “Which is tho hoy that wasn’t sent to school?” asked the magistrate. “He’s the eldest of the youngest that don’t go to work,” explained the mother. Further inquiry elicited the fact that he was named John, was the fifth child. The mother explained that she had not been well and had to keep John home to mind . the baby. j Tho magistrate asked the mother ! why she could not get the eldest girl, , wlio is 22, to mind the baby. J “■‘Oh, they /won’t do it at that age!” f exclaimed the witness. “They like to dress in silks and satins and go to dances. My girl doesn’t like looking after babies.” . Mr Wilson: I’m afraid I can’t help, you to control your family, hut the boy must go to school.
