NEW RIGID DIRIGIBLE.

AMERICAN MACHINE TO TOUR. “WORLD. FACTOR IN FUTURE WARFARE. (Received March 7. 9.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, March 7. Rear-Admiral Moffett, in a speech, said the United States navy was now building a rigid dirigible, utilising helium, which will make a tour of the world, probably proceeding to the North cr South Pole for scientific purposes. The dirigible will embody tlie latest improvements in aeronautic science, and will be capable of long sustained voyages, carrying heavy loads. Germany is builciing for the United States a similar craft.

Admiral Moffett predicted that the dirigible would be a tremenuous factor in future warfare. ,and a vital agency in national defence. He stressed the fact that aeronautics produced a serious defence problem for U.S.A., in view of the nearness of foreign isiand possessions to the American main coast, notably the West Indies. America could easily be subjected to bombing from these places, as centres of operations.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
