PRINCE OF WALES PREDICTS SHORTAGE. NEED FOR REAFFORESTATION. ' LONDON, March 4. The Prince of Wales, at the annual meeting of the Forestry Association, said that during the past three years lie had unrivalled opportunities of realising the Empire’s vast rate of consumption Avould produce a serious timber shortage Avithin twenty years. No time must he lost in carrying out replantings to replace the Avar’s de-A-astation. In A'ieAV of the Empire’s timber resources and climates, it was unsatisfactory that the bulk of Britain’s consumption came from abroad. He" hoped the” forestry section of the Empire Exhibition Avould be a clear-ing-house for inter-Empire knowledge, and popularising the use of Empire-groAvn timbers. Lord Novar emphasised the need of scientific development of the Empire’s forests.
The Duke of Devonshire promised to try to include forestry in tho Imperial Economic Conference’s agenda. —A. and N.Z.C.A.
