Mr. De Valera, at the Ardflieis, announced that a split jiad been averted. The meeting adjourned for two months. The Hail Eireann. continues to function in the interim.

Tlie Gaelic American, in to-morrow s issue, will say: “De Valera lias drawn a quarter of a million dollars of the Irish Republic funds for use in an attempt to. have Ireland renounce the Irish Free State. The funds were deposited in De Valera’s own name, and there is still a large sum ho can use for the same purpose.” The newspaper adds: “De Valera Is the most sinister influence that has ever appeared in the public life of Ireland.” —A. and N.Z.C.A. 1 (Received Feb. 23, 8.5 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 22. At the Sinn Fein Congress JUe Valera stated the leaders had agreed that the Ardflieis should adjourn for three months, not two months in order to give the signatories to tlie London agreement an opportunity to draft the constitution of tlie Free State. The DaiF Eireann would con- : tinue its function and no vote of the Dail Eireann shall be regarded J as a party vote requiring the resig- I nation of the president and Cabinet. I Meantime no .Parliamentary election { shall he held, and when held the constitution of the Free State in its final form shall be presented with the articles of agreement, so that people cg.il decide between a republic and a Free State. FURTHER SHOOTINGS IN BELFAST.
REPUBLICAN OFFICER KILLED
(Received Feb. 23 8.15 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 23
Shooting in'' Belfast was renewed on Wednesday when several were wounded. Troops restored order. Lieutenant Duffy, of the Repuoilcan army, was in charge of a party demanding admission to The house of Leslie Huddleston, a retired British officer. The door suddenly opened and a man inside fired at Duffy and shot him through the heart. Huddleston has been arrested.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
