LADIES UNDER 108.
TOO YOUNG FOR MOTOR DRIVERS
"Eighteen years of age was quite young enough for a person, to be licensed to drive a motor-car,” urged Mr G. Woods, one of the spokesmen cf the taxi-cab proprietors’ deputation to the Hon. W. Downie Stewart recently; “and,” he added, “as one man had said, ‘lf it is a lady, about 10S should be the age.’ ” (Laughter.) ' He held that no one should drive a motor’ vehicle plying for hire under 22 years of age; but in some districts the limit was 20 years; but in others there was no limit at all, and mere boys were allowed to ply for hire. The large amount of waiting time, and the many temptations met with, made it undesirable, he maintained, that immature youths should u- licen. ed to drive vehicles plying ior Lire. Another point made by Mr Woods was that all road traffic, not merely motor traffic, requires careful regulation in the interests of the public safety. tVhat about the Bill as a whole f asked the Minister. ‘ Mr Wc-ods said that they were quite in agreement with the Minister that there should be some regulations governing motor traffic; and, as a federation, they complimented the Government on its attempt to do something in that direction.
