AWFUL TRAIN DISASTER. TUNNEL FILLED WITH SMOKE AND FLAMES. (Received October 6, 5 p.na./ PARIS, October 5. Two local trains collided in Eatignolles tunnel, near Pans. 15 persons are known to be killed and. more than one hundred injured. The gas reservoirs beneath the carriages exploded, causing the coaches to take fire and the tunnel became an inferno. filled with smoke and flames. It is believed that there are many more dead" beneath the burning d*br:s. Firemen made frantic attempts to reach the injured and'"were afriad to pump water into the blazing tunnel lest they drown the maimed victims. For more than an hour they could only leave the fire burn itself out. Masks were ultimately secured, enabling the firemen to enter the tunnel and extinguish the flames. Tire disaster was caused by the first train being held up by a broken coupling and the second train, following, ran into it. —A. and N.Z.C.A.
