AUSTRALASIAN CHAMPION- | SHIPS I N.Z. WINS 4 OF THE FINALS. I (Received Oct. 7, 1.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 6. j The Australasian boxing finals were decided at the Stadium. Several thousand were present. In the semi-finals of the bantam j weight class which preceded the ' finals (Purdy) N.Z.) 8.1. defeated J. ; Pool (Tasmania) 7.11, on points after four rounds of lively boxing. Purdy was pleasing with left and right hooks for the head and smart footwork j B, Ristuccia (Victoria) 8.2, beat V. Nolan (Queensland) 7.13 on points. Feather-weights.—Kay (Vic.) beat Hatton (N.Z.) on points. Hatton found himself oposed to a rival with an awkward stance. Kay was mostly on the run and was difficult to nail. Hatton’s blows, consequently, fell short, which lost him the contest. Lightweights: May (N.Z.) beat Sinclair (Q.) 941, on points, after four rounds of skilful boxing punctuated with much mistiming. May lost points through over-anxiousness Ito land a knockout. From hot ex- [ changes at the close of the last round May hit the -hoards for four i seconds and rose very groggy but | the bell saved him. He had accumulated sufficient points to give him the verdict despite the knockdown, j Still he was' extremely lucky as he i would have been an easy prey for a knockout had the bell not interven- ' ed.

Welterweights: Finley ' (N.S.W.) 10.6 - beat Martyn (Vic.) 10.6. bn points. Middleweights: Meale (N.Z.) 11.14 beat Williams 11.14, on points, after considerable clinching and scuffling. The contest was not attractive but' a number of solid blows were delivered to the head by Meale. Heavyweights: \ McCleary (N.Z.) 12.6 beat jar dine (N.S.W.) 14.44 on. points. McCleary gave away practically two stone and in addition was a much shorter man. Jardine seemed puzzled at times where or how to hit The Welshman managed to land hefty lefts and rights to the head and body. Jardine endeavoured to rush lhs opponent, at times, but McOleary was too fleet of foot. Jardine was urged by the referee not to hold on. In the last round McCleary gave an excellent display, evading a final onslaught, and easily secured the verdict. He was .loudly cheered. Bantamweights-: Purdy (N.Z.) beat Ristuccia (Vic.) on points. Both were f active for a second appearance on the same evening. Purdy was always aggressive but found his opponent a bit difficult to manage as the latter was , a right-footed boxer.
