PERSONAL.

Mr and Mrs Vincent Barker and Misses Barker returned on Wednesday evening from a visit tc Englarrt.

Mr and Mrs W. E. Barker and family and Miss Field are expected to return to New Zealand on October 14, from a visit to England. Mr W. Beauchamp, manager of the local branch of the TJ.S.S. C-0., goes on holiday leave at the end of this week. Mr Wilson, of the .Auckland office, will relieve Mr Beauchamp.

A very pleasing ceremony took place at the Gisborne Hotel yesterday, wnen the staff assembled to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs G. Jones and, their family, who are leaving shortly for Auckland. Mr Glen Caulton said the staff had heard the news with, extreme regret. Mr and Mi's Jones* had always treated them well and had done their best to make the duties of all as light as possible. Mr Jones had had more than his share of ill-health, and all present hoped that he would improve considerably in Auckland. They. all felt that in Mr and Mrs Jones' departure the staff was losing two per 6oll3 ! friends. Mr Caulton then handed to Mr Jones a gold-mounted fountain, pen, suitably inscribed, and to Mrs Jones a. handsome travelling rug, and a silver serviette ring for each of the three children. Mr A. J. Pettitt endorsed Mr Caulton's remarks. Mr Jones, in his reply, expressed his complete satisfaction with the staff, from the highest to the lowest, every , member of whom had worked well and faithfully and he considered be was, indeed, lucky in that respect. He sincerely regretted liis departure, and trusted his health would improve in Auckland. He stated that liis successor Mr P. A. Sainth Kennedy was taking over the whole of the staff, and the speaker knew Mr Kennedy could rely oii every member in, the house. The gathering concluded with the singing of "For He's a Jolly Gqod Fellow,'* and three cheers for Mr and Mrs Jones.
