WAIKANAE BEACH.

MORE MONEY WANTED. MR BARTON WANTS PUBLIC TO ••SEE IT THROUGH." Of the greatest interest to all who hare the Waikanae Beach improvement scheme at heart, and to the public generally, is the announcement ar.ent the position, made by Mr J. S. Barton. 3.M., to a Times reporter last night. Mr Barton said that for the nest few days at least, there would be no cessation of activites. They were, however, at the end of their funds and :: had been intended to discharge the men on the job last night. Fortunately, enough money came in yesterday to enable the work to be continued till the end of this week, and he trusted o the public to keep it going. “I doubt," said Mr Barton, "whether the public- quite realise the position. About £35 a week is needed to carry oil, and the erection of the concrete protecting wall, should take from two to three weeks. *’

It was made clear that unless the public supplied the money for the labor, the cement already in hand tor the wall could not be made use of, and also that it was no use starting tiltwork if it could not lie finished. He had. however, decided that they ought to "carry on" with the wall and trust to the public to see it through.
