GENERAL RICHARDSON
OFFICIAL VISIT TO GISBORNE. Brigadier-General G. A. Richardson. G.0.C., Administrator of the N.Z. Defence Forces, accompanied by Colonel R. IT. Potter. Commandant of the Northern Command, arrived in Gisborne from Opotiki yesterday afternoon, on a* short visit, of inspection to this district. During his stay here, General Richardson will carry out an inspection of the local Territorials and Senior Cadets, and will leave to-mor-row evening for Wellington. Colonel Potter will return to Auckland on Saturday. The following programme* has been arranged for to-dav:—lo.3o a.m-. Inspection of High School Cadets; 2 p.m.,inspection D. Squad,' tth Waikato M.R.. at Garrison. Hall; attend Cook Anniversary celebration; 7 p.m.: receive deputation from Gisborne Rifle Club re insurance of max-leers, and range site; 7.30 p.m.: inspection of No. 72 and 71Companies Senior Cadets at Garrison Hall; 8.30 p.m.: visit Returned Soldiers* Club. To-morrow the General will inspect the Waerenga-a-hika. College Cadets in the morning, atul afterwards he will be taken for a drive around the district, leaving for Wellington by the Arahura in the evening. Brigadier-General Richardson is one of the most prominent officers in the Dominion and has had a distinguished military career, both prior to and during the war. Sergeant-Major, and was appointed a master gunner. Promotion followed promotion, and about twelve years ago he returned to England to go through the Staff College, through which he passed with high honors. In 1010 lie was created a C.M.G.. and the further liono',- of C.B. was bestowed upon him in I**l7. and C.B.F. in 191!). During the he occupied the important position of New Zealand representative at the War Office, and Commandant of the N.Z. Forces in England, in which, capacity lie earned the respect of all the troops. During the war he was four times mentioned in 'despatches, and on his return to New Zealand was appointed to his present position.
