PERSONAL.

Captain Rainey arrived in Gisborne by car from Napier last night. The representatives of the Harbor Board at the Cook anniversary celebrations to-day will lie member Thos. Todd and Mr H. A. Barton, secretary. A London cable states; Colonel Lister, son of vSir T. Villiers Lister, married Mrs George Sandys, daughter of Duncan Cameron, Canterbury, New Zealand, at Holy Trinity, Brompton. The death occurred at her late residence Kaiti, yesterday morning of Miss Maud 'Witty, a daughter of Mr J. W. Witty. For seme-j twenty-eight years Miss Witty had ' been in the service of the Gisborne Harbour Board, and in her official capacity was well-known among the business people of the town by whom she wjas held in the highest esteem. Everywhere she was greatly respected, being of a most obliging disjwsition, and carrying out her duties in a most careful and accurate manner and displaying a remarkable memory for details of her work. During her long association with the Harbour Board she has been a moat trusted servant, and was extremely popular with the other members of the staff. Her loss to the Board will be irreparable. Miss Witty underwent a serious operation towards the end of last year, but recovered from this and was back at work until about three weeks ago, when she*, v.-as again taken ill. Her condition gradually became worse until yesterday morning, when her death occurred. As a mark of respect to the deceased flags were yesterday flown at half-mast on the waterfront, the Harbour Board office, and by a number of the local business firms. .Sincere sympathy will be extended to the bereaved relatives. The funeral which will take place this afternoon, will be of a private nature.
