LONDON WOOL SALES

BRADFORD QUOTATIONS

HARDENING

LONDON, September 12

At the mixed wool sales an average selection wa6 offered. Competition, especially Continental, was hardly equal to last week’s, but prices were fully maintained. A “New Zealand” lot made up to 35-ld, and averaged 33d. The Bradford tops .market shows a good tone, with inquiry for spot lots, but there is little forward business. Quotations are hardening.—A. and N.Z. v-.A. HAMILTON YARDS. Tho Farmers’ Co-op. Auctioneering Co. Ltd., Hamilton, report:—. At Hamilton on September 8, sheep were penned in moderate numbers, the bidding being quick. The yarding of cattle comprised mostly heifers suitable for dairying purposes and grown steers off turnips, a number of the latter were lacking the finish for butchers’ requirements and consequently were dull of sale despite the fact that vendors met the market. The empty heifers met with fair competition to a figure which vendors were not prepared to accept in majority of cases. We quote:— Fat wethers to 225, good forward wethers 15s 3d, store ewes (few wethers) 7s 6d, hoggets 8s 9d to 12s. Fat steers medium weights £8 12s 6d to £9, smaller reliable steers £6 to £6 12s, unfinished steers off turnips £4 to £5 15s, other 3 year steers £3 2s to £3 17s 6d, bad colored and poorer from £2 10s, empty cows to £2 17s 6d, for forward, others from 10s, empty 2 year heifers best £5 10s to £6, 18 to 20 months heifers £4 to £5 os, yearling heifers best £3 10s to £3 15s, weedy from £1 10s. More pigs came forward than pens could accommodate (we yarded over 300). Baconers and porkers sold well, slips and stores were in fair demand, while weaners were easier particularly toward the close of tho sale. Baconers made from £4'lss to £6 9s, porkers £3 10s to £4 12s 6d, small porkers £2 10s to £3 ss. slips £1 15s to £2 19s. weaners best £1 to 30s, others 8s to 17s, sows in pig( backward) £2 12s to £3, fresh dropped calves— Jersey heifers 15s to 265, others 4s to 6s.—Special. ,
