FIRE ON MAURETANIA.
GIGANTIC LINER NEARLY SINKS. RUMPS USED TO RIGHT VESSEL FLAMES' LEAP TO GREAT HEIGHT. LONDON. July 25. A serious fire occurred aboard the Mauretania at Southampton. At one time the gigantic Cunarder was in danger of sinking owing to the thousands of tons of water the firemen poured in, but the pumps were manned and the. ship righted. The fire commenced in a stateroom and burned for several hours, the flames leaping to a great height.— A. and N.Z.C.A.
