SHIELD
The third annual contest among the local primary schools for possession of the Joyce swimming shield took place ill the Gisborne baths/ on Friday afternoon, and resulted in Gisborne school retaining the shield. The following are the results:— BOY'S EVENTS.
25yds. breast stroke: Ist heat. — Traill (Gisborne) 1, Bak (Mangapapa 2; 2nd heat, Clark (Gisborne) 1, Franks (Mangapapa) 2; final, Clark i, Traill 2. Bak 3. 25yds on back: Ist beat.—Preston " (Mangapapa) 1 ; Goldsmith. (Gisborne )2; 2nd heat Clark (Gisborne) 1, Townsley (Mangapapa) 2; final, Clark 1, Pre stun 2, Townsley 3.
25yds any stroke: Ist heat.— Richardson (Kaiti) 1. Muir (Te Hapara) 2; 2nd heat. Thompson (Gisborne) 1, Johns (Mangapapa) 2; final, Thompson 1, Richardson 2, Muir 3. 100 yards: Rice (Gisborne) and Thompson (Gisborne) dead heat. Relay race: Gisborne A 1, Gisborne B 2, Haiti 3. GIRLS’ EVENTS.
25yds breast stroke.—D. Laming (Gisborne) 1, M. Franks (Mamgapapa) 2. 25yds on back: G. Tasker (Gisborne) 1, F. .Bishop (Gisborne) 2. 25yds ;any stroke: H. Holmes (Gisborne) E. Bishop (Gisborne) dead beat 1, O. Skipworth 3. 50yds: 'lt. Ivess (Gisborne) 1, C. Gardner (Gisborne) 2. r ,. Relay race: Gisborne A 1, Gisborne B 2. i • 11 At the conclusion of the shield, events a 100yds championship took place for a trophy kindly donated by Mr Ivess. After an interesting race J. Martin .(Mangapapa) just won’from Miss R. Ivess (Gisborne) R. Thompson (Gisborne) being third.
