TREASURE ISLAND.
PARAMOUNT SUPER SPECIAL AT OPERA HOUSE.
Robert L. Stevenson’s immortal story was screened on Saturday, at tlie Opera House, to an audience that, taxed the capacity of the ball. Admirers of “Treasure Island,” familiar with the detail with which Stevenson enriched the chronicling of his story ol adventure, could not but offer then thanks to Maurice Tourneur ami the artists of the cart, for the care expended in the interpretation of what, wits to them more than a mere film. The curtain raisers, which included, a Mack Sennett comedy “Fresh from the City,” and educational topicals, drew from the audience repeated, evidence of pleasure. But it was not until the title slide of the star was screened, that enthusiastic applause broke out. to the undying memory of Stevenson. “Yo. ho, ho, and a bottle of ruin ! Sixteen men on a. dead man s chest'” There was not one boy there who did not envy the boy friend of the great author, who heard from m s lips this story, of buccaneers. Many wondered if this youth lived to see it screened, and what were his feelings when contrasting its -short hour oi showing to the hallowed hours of bis childhood —for the story m its clectiic garb tells its course all too soon foi Jim Hawkins and his shipmates have their treasure trove safely stowed, between decks, and, while one would Rn>Tor with the romance of the Spanish Main, Treasure Island sinks m the lai horizon and the good ship is homeward bound.
