HUGE INCREASE IN EXPORTS
COTTON GOODS HEAD THE LIST. BIG DECREASE IN MEAT IMPORTS. United Press Association—c-opyriirb* (Received Sept. 9, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 8. A great increase in exports for the United Kingdom is the feature of the Board of Trade returns for August. The exports totalled £115,000,000, an increase of £40,000,000 compared with the previous August. The import, totalled £153,250,000, an increase of £4,100.000. The principal increases ii exports were: Cotton manufactures £.4,000,000, iron and steel manufactures «5,500,000, coal £2,500,000, and The principal increases in imports were: Grain and flour £7,500,000, paper-making materials £2,000,000, rubber, £1,250,000. The principal decrease: in imports were: Meat £10,000,000, cot on £7,000,000. Re-exports of foreign and colonial merchandise totalled £13,250,000, a decrease of nearly £2,000,00‘J. The exports for the eigiit months total £910,000,000, imports £135,000,000, and re-exports of foreign and colonial merchandise £107,000,000, an increase ot £84,50,000. —A. and N.Z.C.A. IMPORTATION 07' CHEAP GERMAN GOODS. CAUSE OF WIDESPREAD UNEMPLOYMENT. LONDON, Sept. 7. Large importations of unmarked hosiery, underwear, fabric, arid gloves made in Germany by workers working 12 hours a day are causing widespread unemployment in the British Midlands. The Chambers of Commerce are petitioning the Government. Meanwhile the factories are working two or three days a week. —Reuter.
