SHAMROCK WINS.

SECOND RACE FOR AMERICA CUP. EX CITING CONTEST FOR HISTORIC TROPHY. NEW YORK, July 20. Shamrock won the second race.—■ j Press Assn. Extraordinary. NEW YORK-"July 20. I The yacht race course was on a ' reach to the soutli-south-east; then ’ a beat to west by north: then on a I reach to north-east bv north. | Shamrock started at 12hr lomin 48sec; Resolute at 12hr lOmin 26sec. j Shamrock had difficulty with her balloon sail and Resolute passed to leeward at 12.22. The wind was : soft. Sail-setting on the Shamrock was bungled. Resolute sailed along smoothly. Shamrock’s head sail did not furl. i At 12.50 Resolute’s balloon sail was going splendidly. At 12.55 Shamrock was half a mile astern to ; the weather. j At 1 p.m. Resolute lost the wind, ‘ and at 1.10 Shamrock passed to I windward. j At 1.25 she led by a quarter of a mile. The breeze was hauling to ; the south. j At 1.45 p.m. Shamrock caught ! the first break of a south-wester and led by half a mile. ! At 2 p.m. Resolute regained a quarter of a mile, and took the star" ; board tack for the mark, three miles ; away. j At 2.2 p.m. Shamrock did ditto and turned at 2.2 S p.m. | Resolute turned at 2hr 32min 41 sec. Shamrock’s little triangular forestay sail was wonderful, being always full. At 3.15 Shamrock was leading by nearly a mile.—A. and N.Z.C.A. NEW YORK. July 20. In the America Cup race Shamrock reached the second mark at 4hx 26min 29see, and Resolute in 4hr 43 | min 36sec. j When Shamrock turned Resolute j was a mile astern, hut sailed fast to ; the mark, and was gaining.
