TE HAPARA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Te Hapara School Committee was held on Thursday evening, when there were present: Messrs Ct. K. Pas ley (chairman), R. Fredericks, L. Marshall, W. Priestley and T. Wilson.

It was decided to write to the Education Board requesting that the temporary appointments on the teaching staff be made permanent. It was resolved to make application to the Department for a grant to repair the fence. It was decided to invite J. Clabby, Heency Bros., and other boxing enthusiasts to give a display to the school children. Dr. Scott and the Mayor would be present. The matter of the arrangements was left, in the hands of Mr Marshall. Messrs Marshall. Priestley and Fredericks were appointed to the visiting committee for the ensuing period.

Accounts amounting to £1 IDs were passed for payment, The headmaster, in his report, stated: The attendance for the past four weeks has been good, our average being 3.94, or 90 per cent. The infants at present are suffering from heavy colds, which are and have been seriously affecting their attendance. The present roll is 445. Inspector Strachan', after lit days with us, completed his inspection visit last Tuesday. The report of same will, in due course, be placed before your committee. During the month Miss Taylor left us and her place lias been temporarily filled by Miss Watt, from Glasgow. These changes are, very detrimental to our work, and I would again impress upon your committee tlie necessity of making the temporary positions on our staff permanent by the Board. New rooms and .section: These I expect will be ready by the end of next week if the, painters get to work at once. The desks from the church, with other desks, will furnish the new rooms. I am making application to the secretary fqr my requirements. It would be wise to ask the Board for a grant to shift fences and clear gorse, and level to a certain extent the new section, os I xinderstand the transaction is completed, though it may not yet have reached the Board.-
