DRIVER SMASHES THROUGH GATES AT TOP SPEED.
POLICE PATROL AMBUSHED
(Received July 17, 1 a.m.) LONDON, July 15. Three men waving red flags attempted to hold lip an express train at Adavoyle crossing between Dublin and Belfast. The driver suspected an attack and continued at full speed. The train dashed through the gates, which were smashed to matchwood hut the train was undamaged. It was subsequently discovered that over one hundred raiders were waiting in the vicinity., Masked armed men ambushed a police patrol at Lanesborough near Longford and shot a constable dead. His companion lay behind a copse firing until his ammunition was spent when he was compelled to surrender. —A. 'and N.Z. Cable Assn.
