“LEST WE FORGET."
(To the Editor.) Sir.—l have noticed with regret the inappropriate noni do plume of two recent letters in vour paper advocating the claims of one of the candidates in an Education Board election and subscribed “Lost we forget.” These words are . consecrated by their use in Kipling’s great Recessional, and to apply them to the services of a poor mortal is little short of literary blasphemy. Let the writer reflect upon these noble lines: “Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice An humble and a contrite heart.
Lord God of Hosts, be with ns yet, Lest we forget—lest we forget.” and his mind will in all humiliation ho attuned to the purpose of the poem and its concluding prayer: “For frantic boast and foolish word Thy mercy on Thy people. Lord.” —if am, etc., . PORTIA. = m = mm == s=g
