Price variations in the Dominion continue. They are d’fficult to understand. A tin containing Ijozs of tobacco —reputed 2ozs—is obtainable in AVailli for Is 4d. in Auckland for Is s;]d, in Wellington for Is 5.U1. in Whangarei for Is (Id. Cigarettes that cost 10d in Invercargill are obtainable in New. Plymouth - for 7-Jd. On the other hand, New Plymouth sells rump steak for Is 2d per lb. whereas the Dannevirke price is lOd. Waihi retailers charge Is per lb for pork sausages. which in Dunedin are purchaseable for 7d, and iii Wellington cost Sd. The distinction of obtaining the highest retail price for leg of mutton is shared by Hamilton and Botorua, where it costs lOd per lb. In some cases variations of from 25 to 110 per cent are to be noticed in the prices nf identical articles in different places. Tha figures are those furnished by the Government: Statistician. Wholesale prices also show variations. Dor instance, household soap. New Zealand make, selling at £52 per ton in Dunedin, is obtainable in Wellington and Auckland at £3!) per ton.
