OUR READERS’ OPINIONS.

AN APPEAL TO THE PUBLIC (To the Editor.) Sii,—I would like, with your kind permission, to draw attention to a matter which concerns the pleasure and interest of the Gisborne public. A her, utinti scenic resort is in danger ot destruction, and consideration _ should he given to the subject before it is too late. Following for a few short miles the course of the Waimatu river, by a road with charming glimpses ot natural beautv, we come to an area of undisturbed Native bush known to the public as Donuer's Bush. It is a Javnrite picnic resort. 1 believe it. is now proposed to burn off this charming bush and utilise the ground for grazing purposes. It is a great pity that this bush-clad area, the last near Uisbirne, should be now devastated. Could not it be purchased as ft scenic reserve and picnic ground for town ami country 'l Supposing it did cost a tew thousands in its bush-clad state—interest. on the money could easily be got from the land itself. h a tea kiosk were erected and a caretaker a opened a good revenue might, be derived. There is, I believe, no open-air tea house, so much appreciated m, other countries, in or near Gisborne the approach to this piece of bush is a charming ride or drive, and not too fm for ada vs outing on foot. I hen is a short cut across Manga pa pa, as veil as the Waimata road. Mrs. Honnei n still here and is leaving. 1 beliiie. shorffy, but might now he approached. Hoping you wifi ventilate this su lion .and cause it to be considered.-! am'. Tours etc., A LOVER OF NATURE.
