PIGEON FLYING.

RAGES FROM MOTH AND WAIROA. - The first races under the auspices of the Poverty Bay Homing Pigeon Society took place on .Friday and Saturday’ from Motu and Wairoa respectively.' Despite the fact that the competing birds were mere babies (none being more than four months old) and that a stiff hurdle was set in racing the same birds on two consecutive days, good performances were put up. The new clocks proved accurate, timing the arrivals to the second. The placed birds were: — Motu Race.—J. Harvey’s b.h. S 9. velocity 1210 yards per minute, 1; Alley and Dudson’s b.c. Sfi, velocity’ 1207 vards, 2; K Cochrane Sachs’ r.h. 75, velocity 1192 yards, 3; W. 11. Loclde’s silver c. 2727, velocity 1190 yards, 4. There were seven competitors find twenty birds.

Wairoa Race.—J. Harvey’s b.c. 90, velocity BGO yards per minute, 1; R, Cochrane Sachs’ bl.c.c. 9222, velocity 859 yards, 2; Alley and Hudson’s b.c. 80, velocity 857 yards, 3; W. 11. Lockie’s silver c. 2725, velocity 852 yards, 4. There were six competitors and eighteen birds. In both races Mr Lockie’s pigeon slipped into the loft unobserved, and so probably lost a better position. As anticipated the country between here and Wairoa makes for low velocities and hard flying. The next race is from Hastings on Saturday, when good entries are expected.
