Constable Burtenvorth. who has been in the police force for many years. hahanded in his resignation, to take effect on Alav 31.
Air E. P. Roberts, who has been reelected chairman of the Alanutuke School Committee, has held that position for eighteen consecutive years.
A.lr F. IT. Taylor, formerly Assistant - Controller of imperial Supplies. Wellington. who was recently appointed to an important position with the Gisborne Sheepfarmers’ Frozen Ateat and Alercantile Company, has commenced duties.-
Advice was received in town yesterday of the death at Napier of Mr F. .E loot, one of V airoa's best known and most highly respected residents. Befor--settling in V\ airoa. Air Foot resided on the At est Coast of the South Island. He took a _ very prominent part in matters political and was a staunch supporter of the Liberal party. The deceased gentleman had been in illhealth for some weeks, and his medical adviser had recommended him to go to A\ ellington for an operation. As Ins strength did not improve to allow of him making such a long journey, he was taken to Napier and operated on. The operation was quite successful, but the patient lacked sufficient vitality to enable him to meet the demands made upon his strength. He is survived by a widow and one child, and his father and sister also reside at Waifoa. In the Ormond Hall on Alouday evening, a very pleasant function took place in honor of the marriage, which takes place to-day. of Aliss Atay Neman, daughter of Air Con Noenan. to Air Frank Cleary, of Alotu. The proceedings took the form of a social evening, with musical items, games and dances. An excellent supper was provided, and so large was the attendance that seating accommodation was at a premium. After supper eulogistic reference to the sterling character of the guest of honor and her future husband was made by Alessrs ,T. AlcLeod. T. Quirk. A. AI. Lewis, J. Benson, and many others. Air' Con Neman suitably replied on behalf of his daughter. Winners of the various games and competitions were: Air K. Benson and partner. Mr Barham and partner, Air Howie and Aliss McKay. Suitable prizes were awarded to each winner. Tlie arrangements for the evening reflected much credit on the organisers, ATesdames Quirk and Clements.
