A London cable announces that Sir William Llewellyn Derwent Wood has .been elected a Royal Academician.
Mr J R. Kirk, who recently proceeded on a visit to Auckland, returned to Gisborne on Saturday morning. A cable message from Washington suites that Rear-Admiral Brittain, chief fir staff, committed suicide aboard his ship with the fleet in Cuban waters. Air R. T. Wearne, who has been appointed assistant to the Rev. W. H. E. Abbey in the Afethodist Church, conducted services at Afangapapa and Te Ifapara yesterday. He is to he welcomed at a social at Te Hapara on Thursday.
Air AV. D. Lysnar, M.P.. left for Wellington on the Admiral Codrington to attend the official celebrations m the Empire City to the Prince of Males, it being his intention also to return to Gisborne immediately afterwards. There is every promise of a very | a r<’e attendance at the social to he tendered to Miss Neenan at Ormond ta-nio-ht. the occasion being the presentation to her of a. handsome token of appreciation and goodwill from her numerous friends in honor of her pendi„.r marriage.—Own Correspondent.
