IMPORTANT PROPOSALS
CONGRESS URGED TO APPROVE
LEAGUE OF NATIONS

The American Federation of Labor has issued a statement advocating; the following laws: Prohibition of child labor. Total restriction of immigration for two years. A minimum wage for Government employees. Federal employment service. Prohibition of inter-State transportation of convict labor. Provision of land and homes for soldiers and sailors. Long-time payment loans to citizens for building homes. The repeal of all taxes on the neces- , sities of life. The Federation urges that Congress should speedily approve of the League of Nations, including the labor provisions. The statement concludes with the assertion that nothing results in more injury and injustice to the worker than compulsory arbitration.
INTERNATIONAL CON FERENCE.
OBJECTION TO EUROPEAN PREPONDERANCE ON BOARD.
(Received Dec. 4, 9.15 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Nov. 30. The International Labor Conference has adjourned. It is understood that it will reconvene in 1920, at the seat of the League of Nations. William Gemmill, employers’ delegate from South Africa, protested at the preponderance of European influence on the governing board, which is composed of twenty Europeans, two Americans, and two from other countries. —Aus. and N.Z. BRITISH TRADES UNION CONGRESS.
PROPOSED CENTRE TO DEAL WITH INDUSTRIAL QUESTIONS.

The Trades Union Congress meets on December 9 to consider the creation of an effective trades union centre to deal with industrial questions. The scheme will necessitate the reorganisation of the functions of the Parliamentary committee, in order to secure real coordination with the trades union movement. —Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
