TROUBLE OVER A SHED.
SYMPATHETIC COUNCIL DISCUSSES REMOVAL. WORK TO BE DONE IN SEVEN DAYS. At the meeting of the Borough Council last evening, a letter was received from Frederick Armstrong, 19 Ormond Road, stating that he had no intention of defying the Council in erecting a shed facing on to the railway reserve, regarding which he had now been served a notice by the building inspector that he must remove it. He asked, that the shed be allowed to remain during the pleasure of the Council. Cr. D. W. Coleman said that the matter had been considered by the works committee, and they felt that the Council should take no action. The Mayor said that if the Council did not act he was informed that another public body would take action against it. Cr. I. Mirfield said that it was a disgrace the way this kind of thing was being done by some people. Mr Coleman said that if some other body was going to take the matter up and endeavor to prevent the man carrying out his intention, he would move that Mr Armstrong be written to and asked to shift the building in seven, days. Cr. H. DeCosta seconded the motion.
Cr. Mirfield said the man had not been given a chance. He had been “jumped on.” The Mayor explained that much consideration had been given, but nothing was done.
The motion was agreed to. Cr. Coleman: “Now that we have started to enforce this by-law, let ns do it all round.”
