FURTHER PROCEEDINGS IN

WELLINGTON

The hearing of defendant’s appeal for a stay of execution of judgment until after the hearing of the appeal by defendant against the judgment of the Supreme Court dismissing bis application for a new trial was heard at ‘ Wellington on Saturday, before his Honor the Chief Justice, Sir Robert Stout. Mr. Skerrett, K.C., with him Mr. Cook, appeared for Mr. Black. Mr. Butler appeared in person.

After hearing counsel for defendant and Mr. Butler in reply, his Honor refused to.make an order for stay of execution; but adjourned the application to Gisborne on December 5, to fix security to defendant on his paying the full amount of the judgment.”
