The first indication of open hostility in connection with the great Band Battle was displayed last evening, when a fierce onslaught was made on the recruiting station erected by tlio Haiti “Guards” at the end of the Haiti bridge. This 'structure a railway ticket box, wa s literally “pinched,” and, being hoisted on to a .cart was removed bodily from the locality bv a platoon from one of the opposing organisations. Several noncombatants who witnessed the attack on the“pill-box” little suspected the dark design which prompted the action. The officer m charge of the recruiting station was on duty at the time, and hut for that circumstance the incident might have been attended with senou's results to somebody. Upon the discovery of the loss, the “Guards” immediately sent out scouting parties under sealed orders, and the special correspondent of the Times at the seat of war learned from an authoritative source that a plan of action Jjad been devised for the recovery of the stolen building.
